Sonoma CROP Hunger Walk
Sunday, April 25, 2010
75% of Pledges from "Walkers" will go to Church World Service for their work in combating hunger around the world. 25% will stay here in Sonoma to be given to FISH and the Redwood Empire Food Bank. To make a DONATION, click on the 'Sign up/Register for Walk' link on the right.
CROP Walks are sponsored by Church World Service and are held in nearly 2,000 communities in the U.S. each year.
They are held for two purposes:
(1) to raise awareness about people around the world who must walk to find food, water, firewood, freedom and other necessities of life; and
(2) to raise funds to help stop hunger wherever it exists.
As a new community venture, we are hoping to include as many of our Houses of Faith and organizations as possible. Right now we are looking for recruiters who will get the word out to their groups and sign up as many "Walkers" as possible. So, if you have a friend from another House of Faith or organization who you think would be interested in helping with this, please let any of us on the steering committee know. Steering committee: United Methodist Church - Rich Hacker; Sonoma Mission - Diane Messing; Faith Lutheran - Bernice Thorstenson; First Congegational - Rev. Nancy Taylor, Amy Ensley, Joan Howarth, Kathy Jewell, Judy Landa, Dick Ridenour.
